3 key ideas that teachers would find useful

According to the Barone & Wright (2008) reading, teachers should take into consideration
three points regarding new literacy instruction.

Three points raised are;
students need more than practice or use of software programs to be ready for new literacies; teachers need to adapt to the forever changing new literacies;
and new literacies offer equality within a classroom therefore they are crucial.

According to the Pericles (2008) reading, blogs are a very useful tool for teachers.
Three points raised are; blogs are simple to create and are appropriate to all of the key learning areas; blogging is a collaborative exercise, encouraging users to communicate and change roles between posting, viewing and commenting; there are many different possibilities within blogging depending on different needs, for example assignments, news, information, class activities, creative arts, journal work etc.

Video Review

This video is a great way to inform teachers and students about knowledge that is socially constructed which can be problematic (Callow, 2008). This video challenges the idea of useful and accessible information on the internet. This video encourages teachers and students to critically evaluate these new forms of information. The video discusses factors to consider when critically assessing digital information, for example; the appropriateness, the validity, the intentions of the author, the author, the sponsor, the promotions or ad's surrounding the information etc.

My review on one website from the Callow reading

Interested in art & drawing I chose the website www.toondoo.com to review! Toondoo is a user friendly site that allows members to create toon characters along with comic strips or books that can be shared in many ways. Members can print their comic strips, comment on each others comic strips and even embed comic strips into blogs. This website is an example of sharing knowledge through a new medium. The great thing about this website is that anyone can be a world-wide artist in this space!!

My brief definition of the term 'new literacies'

In the reading called "New literacies, New York & Web 2.0: a little knowledge is a helpful thing!", the term 'new literacies' can be defined as a transforming method of sharing knowledge.
